Everest Base  Camp Trek Gear Listtn_125

 Clothing

  • Down jacket (hire or purchase cheaply in Nepal)
  • Outer Shell waterproof Jacket (preferably Goretex).
  • Waterproof pants (shell pants, cheap ones in case it rains)
  • Light weight trekking pants (quick drying)
  • Fleece pants
  • Briefs X 4 (3x cotton 1x icebreaker)
  • Warm socks X 3
  • light socks X 3
  • long underwear base layer top and bottoms X2(icebreaker is the best)
  • Short sleeved shirts (wicking capabilities) X 2
  • Selection of T shirts and long sleeve tops (icebreaker etc non cotton are better)
  • Medium weight thermal top (icebreaker/fleece)
  • Fleece jacket (polartec 200)
  • Gloves: fleece or wind stopper
  • Woollen hat
  • Sun Hat (wide brim for good coverage)
  • Bandana or Buff.  (Buffs rule,  great for 100s of uses)

 

Hardware/Accessories

  • Hiking Boots (mid weight boots should fit well with Heavy/light socks, brands: scarpa,Merrell, teva, Keen, Vasque etc) seek expert advice on fitting, comfort is the key.
  • Running shoes ( good for in lodges/ villages)
  • Drink bottle 1litre Naglenes
  • :Trekking poles (purchase in Kathmandu for approx $20US)
    Gaiters ( short and simple type, not essential)
    : sleeping bag (3 season, can be hired in Kathmandu for 70c
    Per day or purchased for $80USD)
    : Day pack 20 to 30 litre (you will carry this one)
    : large pack or hold all bag with pad small pad lock( for the
    porters to carry gear)
    : Travel bag ( to leave behind in Kathmandu with city gear)
    Accessories
    : Sunglasses (quality as UV ray are very strong at altitude)
    : Sunscreen (SPF 30 plus)
    : lip balm
    : Headlamp touch with spare bulb and battries
    : Trekking poles (can be purchased in Kathmandu for $15US)
    : Small Swiss army knife
    : Camera /video
    : Book /Journal/cards
    :Small first aid kit containing, compead (for blisters), Diamox
    Plasters, Panadol/Nurofin, throat lollies,
    sore throat gargle, Imodium, electrolyte
    :Personal toiletries - tooth brush, deodorant, women's hygiene
    Items, soap, travel towel
    :toilet roll and wet wipes (very useful)
    Pee bottle (Nalgenes, you’ll thank me when its –10oC)
    Important: The porters who are carrying the majority of your
    gear leave very early and you will not see them until the
    lodge at night . You will need to keep layers of clothing, cam-
    eras, toiletries and others thing you personally need during
    the day.

  • Thermarest,exped, or sleep pad.
  • If renting a sleeping bag in Nepal a silk/cotton sleeping bag liner is recommended.
